EMERGENCY EARTHQUAKE COMMUNICATIONS DRILL

CUSEC (Central United States Earthquake Consortium) in contact with the amateur radio community has requested a Communication Test  March 21, 2000Z - 2130Z (14:00 – 15:30 CST)  on or about 3.980 and 7.238 MHz.  Please see state net listings below.

We are requesting all amateurs, ARRL SECs, DECs, ECs, MARS members and others who are able to participate to please check into these nets.

The nets will be directed nets. Checkins will begin with ARES officials from each state via state-by-state roll call. All other checkins will then be taken.

ALABAMA -

NCS K4KCU, Roger 7.238 LSB for member states net (AR, IL, KY, MS and AL)

Also, there will be several MARS nets running (40 & 80 meters).

And PSK31 on 7.094 LSB and/or 3.585 LSB with David, KD4NOQ

CUSEC consists of 8 member states (TN, MS, AR, IL, IN, KY, MO and AL) and 10 associate states (VA, NC, SC, GA, LA, OK, OH, IA, NE and KS).  Additional information about CUSEC may be found at www.cusec.org

The purpose of the drill:

1. This information will let each of you know if you can contact us with our stations running on battery power.

2. Will let CUSEC and us know what areas we can contact (from CUSEC on battery power).

3.  This would also give us information to pinpoint locations CUSEC thinks are important, that we may not have heard from.  That would mean a little more intense contacts in the future to be sure amateur radio operators  from those areas come on frequency next time.

4. Also, in the future info on radios, power source and type of antennas would be exchanged.   This information would be beneficial for all amateur radio operators.

5. We want amateur radio operators  in the member and associate states to get accustom to coming up on a designated freq in case of any earthquake occurrences.

March 21 is the introduction, hello we are out here.

CUSEC asked if it were possible to do a drill such as this at least once every six months so we can exchange different information each time, and test equipment needs on various remote sites.
