ARRL Alabama News

I want to thank everyone for working with your local field day event this year!

This year we are compiling a list of field day activities around Alabama.  John KD4HIE in south Alabama has generated a Field Day map and information web page. You or someone in your area has already submitted some Field Day information.  Please check and make sure your field day information is accurate at http://www.alaweb.com/~ke4hie/fd2004.html

The Alabama Section Emergency Coordinator Jay Isbell KA4KUN, and myself plan to visit as many Field Day sites as possible.  To help us with this please send directions to your site, local repeater, menu and other pertinent info.  We plan to monitor 3.965 during the trip.

This year we have Amateur Radio Week proclamation signed by our governor.  The proclamation can be used in your Field Day press release or added to your web site. Amateur Radio Week

The ARRL Field Day package can be found here, http://www.arrl.org/contests/announcements/fd/

Remember the young people and visitors at your field day site.  This is where we build the membership and future of amateur radio.  Make sure visitors are recognized and greeted.  Explain amateur radio and the emergency preparedness aspect of this event to them in a not to technical way.  Also give them an amateur radio and/or club contact information.

After Field Day please let me know about your event.  For example, number of participants, visitors, contacts and score.  Also send pictures and a copy of your newspaper article.

Field day weekend covers many aspects of amateur radio from emergency preparedness, setting up and maintaining a station for a long duration, fixing problems to amateur fellowship.  Field Day is a great learning experience!  Good luck and hope to see you there!

73,

Greg Sarratt, W4OZK
